A TRUSTED SYSTEM Match racing needs a Series based on the traditional system, where event organizers provide their own boats for the competition. Match racing has been established as a world sailing discipline through 57 countries. Most of the Event organizers and sailing clubs relied on the old system, and made serious investments into fleets of boats to make a match race event possible. This new series will revitalise the benefits of this huge investment once again.
Our aim is to build a transparent, communicative and connected group of international events, where schedules and details are shared as early as possible, so sailors can organize themselves around this. Competitive sailors need to plan their season and generate sponsorship, but to do so, there needs to be reliable and structured information well in advance.
The well-established Umpire community, under the umbrella of the World Sailing Development programme needs an international series. We will support the development programme and provide a much needed event base to develop the key role of umpires. A quote from an International Umpire: “It is a fact that the best fleet racing sailors mostly qualified through competing many years in match race events. There is no better and more successful school for fleet racing, than having solid experience in monohull match racing.”
